After graduating from college, she worked for a year as a paralegal in Chicago before attending Harvard Law School. At Harvard, she was an editor of the Harvard Law Review and graduated magna cum laude in 2004.


After graduating from law school, Fagan clerked for Judge Stephen F. Williams on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. She then worked as an associate at the law firm of Williams & Connolly before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York in 2007.

During her time at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Fagan worked on a number of high-profile cases, including the prosecution of members of the Bonanno crime family for racketeering and murder. She also served as deputy chief of the organized crime and gang section, where she oversaw investigations into the Gambino and Genovese crime families.
